ETH4D Research Challenges - Special call to respond to COVID-19 outbreak on the African continent

ETH4D Research Challenges aim to develop effective solutions for poverty reduction combining technologies, policies and a profound understanding of human behaviour. The research questions for this special call focus on mitigating the negative impact of a pandemic/epidemic on people’s health or livelihoods living on the African continent.

Goal of the ETH4D Research Challenges

The goal of the ETH4D Research Challenges is to enable collaborations on project-based research between ETH researchers, non-academic partners (i.e. Private Sector, NGOs, Governmental Organizations) and partners from the Global South to develop effective solutions for poverty reduction combining technologies, policies and a profound understanding of human behaviour.

Definition of ETH4D Research Challenges

Proposals need to address a clearly defined research question that has the objective of creating a positive impact for communities in a low- or lower middle- income country. The challenges addressed must be relevant for poor people in low- and middle-income countries. Preference will be given to low-income countries.

ETH4D Research Challenges: Special call to respond to COVID-​19 outbreak on the African continent

The research questions for this special call must help to address the prevention of a spread of an infectious disease in African countries or help to mitigate the negative impact of a pandemic/epidemic on people’s health or livelihoods living on the African continent. A focus on the current Coronavirus - COVID-19 crisis is encouraged, but not required.
